Selecting The Best Bike

There are lots of reasons to choose a bicycle as your primary means of transportation. Just because you are riding a bicycle from one point to another doesn't mean it's your preferred way to travel. The first thing to consider when buying a bicycle is the cost of the bike. Of course there are going to be other things to think about, like where you plan to ride or how long you will be using this bicycle, but the price is still most important.

Good bicycles can cost hundreds or even thousands of dollars. It's not going to matter if you don't have thousands of dollars to put on a bike, because there is a way you can find a great bike for a runaway price. Used bicycles and bicycles being sold at auction are great ways to save money while still getting the cycling bicycle that you need and want. You shouldn't ever sit the seat at the lowest setting, which means sitting on the crossbar. Always consider that you are going to have to raise the seat up off the crossbar when you are shopping for your bike. You want to have the comfort of the seat being higher up than the crossbar on the bike, because if the seat is sitting on the crossbar, you will not be comfortable. The ideal seat height can be achieved, by ensuring that your leg is very close to completely extended, when your foot is at it's lowest position while on the pedal.

Be sure to allow room between the crossbar and yourself. When you get a bike be sure to move the seat up a couple of inches from the crossbar. Make sure you can place both feet on the ground if need be. Different bikes will need differing clearance amounts. A good example is a touring bike, with these bikes you will only need around 1" difference. For mountain link bikes you will require somewhere around 3 inches. Several different factors play into how you are going to choose the right bicycle. Are you going to be using your bike every day or will you only be riding every so often? What height makes you feel the most comfortable? Are you a person who would rather your feet be flat on the ground when you are sitting or would you rather have a little room between your feet and the ground?
